Yes, more anarchist riots (yawn)

That's right, our
neighborhood (Nørrebro) just became even more
world famous than it already was. It started on Thursday morning,
when we were really hoping to catch up on some sleep, and the
helicopters constantly flying over our roof ruined that plan. As
it turned out, the Danish "anti-terror" police had landed on the roof
of the neighborhood anarchist house (see Postcard 3 and Postcard 4 for
background). They arrested everyone inside, but once their
friends around town (and around Europe) found out, they were not so
happy. Or maybe they were happy, because that meant it was time
to riot! So, the last few nights have been very eventful around
here, with demonstrations, burning barricades and cars, and over 500
arrested. Again, there's no need to worry about us - we can still
get around town, and no one has put our safety at risk. Certainly
the anarchist riots are a lot safer than Danish New Year! (see Postcard 5) Note
- I didn't take the photo above, and I haven't been wandering around at
night with my camera. But if you want to see photos of the
unrest, check Indymedia UK here and
here.

This one I did take - from
the safety of our apartment. Last night the police were blocking
off our street because people were gathering in the park and they
wanted to block any movement toward the disputed building. They
also blocked the street behind our building, and I saw the "pantsless
bigot" (see Postcard 3)
go out and socialize with the police. As Amanda said, he must
have figured they were his kind of people. The constant
helicopters overhead was starting to seem like a form of psychological
torture, but I managed to get to sleep eventually.

But enough about anarchist
riots - that's old stuff to us anyway. Today we had our first
serious sunshine in weeks! We celebrated with a ride to the swamp
- Utterslev Møse. It's a nice place, with trails all around, lots
of waterbirds, and only one major highway slicing through the middle.
