A look around our neighborhood

Most of our neighborhood is quite nice-looking, but one notable exception is located just behind our building. I think the man living here must be mentally ill – his yard is filled with piles of old furniture and building supplies, the house and yard feature crude signs saying things like “Islam is un-Danish”, and he walks down the street wearing a shirt and a towel or just underwear.

The local anarchists do a nicer job with their decorating. Here's a huge mural near the house where they've been squatting since the 70's.

There's an ongoing controversy about whether they will be forcibly evicted on behalf of the religious group that bought the building from the city.

A quieter group of neighbors across the street – famous dead Danes in Assistens Kierkegård, a cemetary that doubles as a public green space. An owl watches over the tomb of physicist Niels Bohr.

Søren Kierkegaard (a philosopher whose last name means churchyard) with a white rose and purple blooms left on his grave.

Evergreen boughs at the final resting place of fairy-tale creator Hans Christian Andersen.

A little further from home, evening light shines on Fredericksberg Slot (castle).

The large park next to the palace is home to some very tame herons.

Near the heron bridge, I found a tree decked out in baby pacifiers of all things. Don't ask me why.

At one of the park's entrances, an ice rink had been set up.
