2009-2011: A Job Search Odyssey

I won't say too much here about this experience, except that it involved 14 interviews over the course of two academic years.  An interesting but very demanding journey with a happy ending.

My first faculty interview took place at the University of Cambridge.  I know I took some pictures, but I can't find them now.  This photo is from Wikimedia Commons

My second interview was at Oxford, Mississippi (University of Mississippi, often called Ole Miss).  Photo from Wikimedia Commons.

Next up was the University of Pittsburgh, home to the Cathedral of Knowledge. Photo from Wikimedia Commons.

The University of West Virginia (Morgantown) offered some tempting sledding hills.

The University of Massachusetts, Boston has a harborside campus.

New Brunswick, NJ is home to Rutgers University.

My final interview of 2010 offered me a return to Vienna, Austria.  After giving my pitch, I met up with our friend Ines and attended a concert in the city hall courtyard.

Penn State University: (1) old and new buildings, (2) monument to the geology of Pennsylvania, and (3) mountain laurel in spring at Rothrock State Forest.

The University of Virginia (Charlottesville) and Monticello, the home of its founder

A big snowball on the quad at the University of Delaware.

A break from wintry interviews at the University of Hawaii (Manoa, Honolulu), marking my 50th state visited.  Shown here are Waikiki Beach and Diamond Head crater.

A spring-time visit to the historic town and campus of the University of Oxford.

I've seen many intriguing potential destinations, but at the end of this epic search, I could not be happier to start my new position at the University of Wisconsin, and we are thrilled to be settling in beautiful Madison!
