Coy Glen

Coy Glen is a scenic valley through which a small brook cascades.  It is designated by the Town of Ithaca as a critical environmental area, so please tread lightly here.  Coy Glen is located on West Hill, and the top of it can be accessed from the Elm Street Extension, just east of where this road bridges the glen.  At the bottom, it passes alongside Calvary Cemetary (Route 13A).  Between Elm St Ext and the cemetary, Cornell owns some of the land on the northeast side of the glen, and all of the land on the southwest side.

Hiking here is a challenge.  Lightly used trails parallel the glen in some places, but due to the steep slopes, they're often quite a ways above the water.  Another option is to walk right along the creek, rockhopping from one side to the other as need be.  This is easier if the water level is low, but even then, it will be necessary to detour up along the slopes at several of the larger waterfalls.  Coy Glen is a place to find your own way, but take care to avoid causing erosion.
