By horse, rowboat, and carnival float

Another sunny weekend day
not to be wasted. We hiked along the wooded shores of Farum Sø...

...and the larger Furesø. Not quite warm enough for
us to jump in, but the horses were willing to wade a bit.

We were suprised to find
that Copenhagen hosts a fairly large Brazilian-style carnival in
May Here's Simone Moreno
and her band.

The samba parade closed with
this float's curious depiction of heaven and hell.

Aside from lots of Brazilian
music, there were other performers like this drumming and dancing group
from Senegal.

We went with Rick (a friend
from the U.S. who was here for a conference) to Roskilde's Viking Ships
Museum. Here some visitors row past a larger boat, which will set
off for Ireland this summer (under oar power).

Roskilde's former cathedral
is a fancy affair. It's easy to imagine an old priest tottering
up the steps to this curious pulpit.

The church doubles as a
crowded crypt - bodies behind the altar, in back and to the sides of
the sanctuary, under the floors, and so on.

The orchid that came with our
apartment has sent up a flowering stalk! Four blossoms are out so
far, with more on the way. Astute observers will also notice Mayumi's fun
springtime crayon portrait commemorating our trip to the cherry blossom
mecca of Yoshino.

Amanda and our new
fuschia plant soak up some sun.
