The apartment – before & after

Copenhagen has a very expensive and very competitive housing market (apartments get taken as soon as they're listed). Lucky for us, we found someone who could sublet her very affordable place to us. Here's our building from the outside, but you can't see our windows in this picture – they're too high up (5th floor above the ground floor – good exercise on the stairs).

BEFORE: The tenant we're subleasing from has a very unique decorating style, and left us not only some furniture but also a lot of other... stuff. She did have suspenders on the deer head too – must have taken those down.

Manakin with feather hat, spike collar, assorted necklaces, and boxing gloves (with disguise its lack of hands).

Cow head (with peacock hat)and cow hide rug.

AFTER: One good way to deal with the dark winters is to get a lot of indoor plants.

We got a nice used shelf unit for under the kitchen counter, and added a microwave and toaster (both also used but nice).

We kept a few of the original decorations, like this car painting, but we rearranged a lot of the furniture. This desk had been out with the trash, and the desk chair is an antique from the used shop.

Our red corner. Notice the toucan lamp, more of our new plants, and some Christmas presents cleverly wrapped by Amanda in store bags and free newspapers.

This little couch in the bedroom has been claimed by Amanda's new Spanish guitar.

Our all-in-one bathroom – the sink and shower water come from one faucet, and the entire bathroom is basically a shower splash zone.
The view from the front windows of our apartment – an elementary school.

Another sunset picture – the view from the back of our apartment. We're not sure yet what the tower is for (other than cell phone antennae).
