California Coast

A quick visit to the Bay Area, where I showed Amanda the familiar sites of Berkeley.

Across the bridge in San Francisco, where sea lions still lounge around at the pier.

A Far East park with skyscrapers beyond.

Share the road with ungulates - this cow claimed right of way on the Pacific Coast Highway (that's ocean beyond the cliff).

Our redwood pictures didn't turn out well, but here's a fallen giant (roots behind Amanda, trunk to the right) at Humboldt Redwoods State Park.

Sunset from California's "Lost Coast" in the King's Range Conservation Area.

These orange and purple starfish also appear on the cover of a population genetics textbook - both colors are the same species.

A collection of sea life artifacts found along the beach.

This lighthouse was the final destination of our day hike.

I believe this is a "sunflower starfish" - I can see at least 23 of the 24 arms it's supposed to have.

A herd of Roosevelt elk (females and babies) near the beach at Praire Creek Redwoods State Park.

We saw over 20 of these critters while walking and driving around the coastal area near Fern Canyon.

Looking out into the misty forest (from inside a tree trunk) at Redwoods National Park.

Across the state line, drip formations in Oregon Cave.

Multnomah Falls in the Columbia River Gorge, east of Portland, OR.
